Peach Paradise: Redefining Asian Drag | Netflix
ShayShay is a non-binary Japanese-Irish cabaret artist who has been redefining ‘drag’ and smashing race and gender stereotypes since their emergence on the UK scene. Directed by Shiva Raichandani, produced by Chi Thai with co-producer Shaun Lónyay-Rhodes.
‘The Bitten Peach’ is the U.K.’s leading Pan-Asian cabaret collective featuring a gender-diverse lineup of artists working in a variety of nightlife performance genres, including drag, burlesque, dance, comedy, music, and circus. Follow ShayShay (they/them), co-founder of the collective and descendant of Japanese internment camp detainees, as they empower a community of marginalised artists in London, and prepare for the collective's biggest show yet. An emotional journey of self-discovery, resilience, and breaking barriers, all in dazzling high heels! Based on a tale from China’s Zhou Dynasty, one refers to a homosexual as “enjoying the pleasures of the bitten peach”. Devour the forbidden fruit, and say hey hey ShayShay!
Produced as part of the Netflix Documentary Talent Fund.
